Nutrition, BMI and risk of Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus in Myanmar
The study will provide data on associations between nutrition (intake of fruit and vegetables and use of various cooking oils) and risk factors for non-communicable diseases (body mass index, hypertension and diabetes) in Myanmar. It will also describe in depths the consumption patterns of fruit and vegetables and cooking oil, as well as and changes in such patterns during a 10 year period. It will further investigate the fatty acid content of commonly used cooking oils. The study will use already collected data from Myanmar at different years, collected by the WHO STEP survey procedure, and include a smaller data collection with in depth questions of intake of fruit, vegetable and cooking oils, together with collection of cooking oil samples for fatty acid composition analyses. Results will be used in future work to prevent non-communicable diseases in Myanmar and potentially also in nearby countries.
