The Object of Ethnic Minority Health in Medical Education: Blind spots, educational development, and the question of under and overdiagnosis in relation to blind spots

This project will explore how the topic of ethnic minority health is taken up in medical education at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo. More specifically the project aims to map how ethnic minority health is framed within the medical curricula, course work, problem based learning, case based learning and team based learning. The primary focus is on how ethnicity and health is being represented and taught in medical education. A secondary focus will be to investigate how medical students view this teaching in light of questions of over-and under diagnosis as well as under-and over treatment. As a hypothesis, the project stipulates that any potential blind spots in the educational course, might lead to either overdiagnosis and/or under-diagnosis of ethnic minorities.
