Social Comparisons to COVID-19 Related Social Media Content and its Impact on Well-Being
During the covid-19 pandemic, infection control measures have had a substantial impact on everyday life. Although many measures have been applied on a national level, research indicates that there are considerable individual differences in how people have been affected by the situation. With social media becoming the main sphere for social contact during this time, one factor that may have influenced individuals’ wellbeing are social comparisons triggered by posts about how others are coping with the circumstances. To investigate this relationship, this study examines how pandemic-related Facebook posts, designed to trigger either upward or downward social comparisons, affect participants wellbeing.
