Nordic Baltic seminar on the occasion of the 100 years anniversary of the independence of the Baltic States

Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law has worked with the law and legal questions in the Nordic perspective for more than 50 years and appreciates the importance of the close Nordic cooperation. An important dimension of this cooperation has been relations with the Baltic States.

The seminar is organized jointly with Kulturlaget Norge-Latvia

Year 2018 is a major milestone for the three Baltic states, which celebrate a 100-year anniversary of independence. The Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers have cooperated with the Baltic States for more than 25 years. This cooperation has been important for the Baltic states but also for the Nordic countries.

The presentations at this seminar seek to discuss and evaluate the Nordic-Baltic relations, illuminate the legal aspects of the statehood and independence of the Baltic States (with Latvia as an example) and to present research funding possibilities.

Our speakers include Nina Sandberg, member of Norwegian Parliament and Parliament's delegation to Nordic Council, Tom Kristiansen, Professor, University of Tromsø, Dr. Elina Grigore- Bara, University of Latvia Law Faculty and Birgit Jacobsen, Senior Advisor, Norwegian Research Council.

The language of the seminar will be English and Norwegian.
