  • English. Participants are allowed to write assignments in either Norwegian or English
  • The Introductory module must be started and preferably completed before you apply for the course. We encourage participants to attend the course with a colleague from the same or similar discipline. Experienced and newly employed academic staff, temporary and permanent, are welcome to apply.

Why choose this module?

Ever wonder how to engage your students more? This course will provide you with different tools and approaches to critically reflect on the competencies of your discipline or profession. We use the concept of three apprenticeships to describe these competencies of your academic discipline or profession as

  1. knowledge (apprentice 1)
  2. skilled know-how (apprentice 2)
  3. values, goals, and attitudes (apprentice 3)

We will help you develop pedagogies of practical reasoning that integrate the three apprenticeships. We apply deliberative communication, a tool for critical reflection, as a pedagogy for groups to discuss a problem or challenge from different perspectives.

Our goal is to help you find ways to create a model so that your students understand how and why you make discipline-specific decisions or take actions. The course will also provide experiences to learn from and with your peers across disciplines.

Focus targets in this module

We focus on teaching approaches and tools to help students engage with what they are learning. After this module, you shall be able to provide tools to students to critically reflect on how their learning might add value in other courses, their lives more generally, and society.

Before each gathering, participants should watch videos, read current literature and prepare for our meetings. The module consists of workshops, during which we shift among brief lectures, group work, individual reflection, and plenary discussions. We also require a final written assignment.
