Workshop: Low-latency video streaming

Dr. Sven Ubik from the Department of Research and Development in CESNET, a Czech NREN (National Research and Educational) will present their low latency streaming hardware, MVTP-TICO-4K and MVTP-2HD-AUDIO.

Schedule

Time Content
08:45 Coffee
09:00 Technical presentation of the Tico system
11:00 Lunch
12:00 Testing the equipment for both teaching and music performance
15:30 Final discussion

About the hardware

MVTP-TICO-4K is designed to be a low latency FPGA tool for collaboration in performing arts. The hardware is designed to be a real-time, standalone device (no PC is required). The video streamed is 4K p60 with 16x 24-bit/58 kHz embedded audio. The added latency is under 1 ms. With devices like the MVTP-TICO-4K we can connect artists over networks, allowing them to new ways of musical experiences, collaboration and cultural exchange.

Background

Video-based research and education is developing quickly at UiO these days, with the need for better, faster and easier-to-use systems. In the coming year we will test a number of different video streaming solutions with the aim of supporting activities in varied projects, including RITMO, fourMs, eVIR, and the new international master's programme Music, Communication and Technology.
