GEO5550 – Seminar on remote sensing and numerical terrain analysis
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
This research-oriented seminar includes in-depth discussions on selected state-of-the-art remote sensing and terrain analysis topics, current technological developments and research directions, recent publications, etc. Typical topics include:
- Reflection of selected scientific publications
- Presentation and discussion of specialized remote sensing topics
- Algorithm development and software usage
- Discussion of current research
Knowledge: The students will

- understand the most recent developments in geoscientific remote sensing and terrain analysis

- be able to read, understand and discuss research by others
- be able to present and discuss research methods and results

- The course aims at fostering and developing scientific curiosity around the course theme and a critical reflection of representativeness, accuracy, reliability and importance of the data and results
Admission to the course
Students may start either in autumn or spring, and must sign up for the exam in the finishing semester.
Formal prerequisite knowledge
GEO4515 – Remote Sensing/GEG2240 – Introduction to remote sensing (continued), GEO4520 – Advanced remote sensing and topographic analysis, and an ongoing remote sensing project
Recommended previous knowledge
The course is mainly directed at master students within the field of geomatics at the Department of Geosciences. It can be combined with GEO5540 – Special topics in remote sensing and terrain analysis.
- 5 credits overlap with GEO9550 – Seminar on remote sensing and numerical terrain analysis.
One 3-hour seminar date per month on average, covering one special topic each and including teaching and discussion of special topics, project presentations, and paper discussions
In order to pass the seminar, a student has to attend 10 seminar dates, and prepare and lead one of them. This will require seminar attendance over two semesters.
Attendance at the first lecture is compulsory. Students who fail to meet, are considered to have withdrawn from the course unless they have previously given notice to the Student administration (email@example.com).
The student has to hand in one obligatory presentation connected to the above seminar lead and participate 10 times in the seminar.
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
It will also be counted as one of the three attempts to sit the exam for this course if you sit the exam for one of the following courses:

Resit an examination
Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.
Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
