UV9409 – Hannah Arendt: Worldliness, Plurality, and Education
If we think of the educators’ responsibility to gradually introduce the child to the world, to foster an understanding of the world as it is, then our children are the hope for the future; Hannah Arendt turns our attention towards the double task of the educator: to protect the child and to counter world-alienation. The teacher’s task, then, would be to gradually introduce the child to the world, then turning to Arendt is particularly relevant, because worldliness (“a mode of engagement”), natality (“the miracle of beginning”), and plurality (“the basic condition of both action and speech”) at the core of her thinking.

- Hannah Arendt: Thinking and Judging – our instruments of orientation in the world
- Hannah Arendt and Democracy

PhD candidates at the Faculty of Educational Sciences will be given priority, but it is also possible for others to apply for the course. Applicants must have at least a Master's degree.

This is an intensive course over two days, comprising a total of 14 hours.
Dates: 6-7 April 2016.
Location: University of Oslo, Helga Eng’s building, Room 231.
To obtain 1 study point 80% attendance in the course is required.
To obtain 3 study points participants need to submit a paper (5-7 pages, Times New Roman 12, line spacing 1,5). 80% attendance is required.
