Greeting to UiO from the scholar hosted 2009-2010

"After a terrible time waiting for the worst, when I arrived with my family to Norway, I was astonished for the safety of the country. Suddenly, it seemed like the slaughter that is occurring in my homeland was just a sort of crazy nightmare. We saw how people could trust each other, how institutions could actually work in behalf of public interest, how governors could be respected and trusted, and how political opinions could be expressed without fear of retaliation. I deeply thank UiO, SAR and Norway for hosting us and settling us in a safe place to live and work. It was great to be able to express freely your thoughts, and to produce your academic work without concerns. I think that my best way to thank you and contribute to improve things in my country is to keep on doing the work you considered worthy to preserve. In countries where civil society faces violent challenges, having the possibility to influence from abroad could make a difference. Thank you always."
