Democracy as Idea and Practice is an interfacultary research programme at the University of Oslo. The programme has participants from several areas of research at The Faculty of Social Sciences, The Faculty of Humanities, The Faculty of Law and other faculties at the University of Oslo. Presently, about 50 researchers at the University of Oslo are associated with the programme. Their research covers a wide range of topics in the field of democracy research, and deals with normative as well as empirical problems.

Phd course/Training School:
A Joint Seminar Organized by the Dept of Political Science and the Democracy Programme, University of Oslo, the COST Action on Local Public Sector Reforms in Europe, and the Norwegian Centre in Paris.
The Research Programme on Democracy at the University of Oslo and Uppsala University are organizing a workshop at the Swedish Institute in Istanbul, Turkey. The event is multi-disciplinary (social sciences, humanities and constitutional law) and paper-based. A group of around 20 researchers will be invited to take part in the workshop.
