Admission

THERE IS NO ADMISSION TO THIS PROGRAMME OPTION FROM AUTUMN 2013.

Students who would like to write a Master's thesis related to linguistics, may apply to the following programme option:

Admission requirements

Former applicants had to fullfill both of the following conditions:

  • An in-depth study of at least 80 ECTS credits within one of the languages of the region (Chinese, Japanese or Korean) with a minimum average grade C
  • 30 ECTS credits within East Asian and/or China/Japan area studies

For students who were admitted to the BA programme in Asian and African Studies or Languages at the University of Oslo up to Autumn semester 2009, the following model will also be approved:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from the University of Oslo with 80 credits within the language of specialization with a minimum average grade C.

In addition to 80 ECTS credits within Chinese or Japanese language an extra full year of studies in China or Japan is highly recommended before entering the master programme. In the case of Chinese, students with a Norwegian Bachelor’s degree can do this by taking [emne:KIN3110] and [emne:KIN3120] , and regarding Japanese, students may contact the department.

Students who possess near-native fluency in spoken and written Chinese, Japanese or Korean, and can document this with transcripts from national secondary school, may also apply on the following condition:

  • specialization corresponding to at least 80 ECTS credits in linguistics or philology - in a broad sense - with a minimum average grade C

Ranking of applicants

Applicants are ranked according to their grade average in the specialization of their degree. Applicants who cannot be ranked according to their grade average, will be ranked on the basis of an individual assessment.

You normally cannot be admitted to a master's degree programme or study option within the same subject area as a previously completed master's degree at the University of Oslo.
