Make your student city greener

The campus is home to a wealth of plant and animal life!

Grow your own food!

Try your hand at gardening as a hobby and help boost biodiversity in our city! Pick up some seeds for free from the Seed Library at the HumSam Library, and help increase biodiversity in our city. Pop into the Green Office to get some soil and help with planting your seeds. Or join the community at the Student Garden.

We organise regular events on soil health, seed collecting, biodiversity walks and sowing.

Green oases on campus

The Green Office is working to increase biodiversity on campus, making it a better and more pleasant place to be. We hold regular volunteer sessions at the Roof Top Garden behind Niels Henrik Abel’s House, where you can join us in planting and tending the flowerbeds.

We have also taken the initiative to establish a pocket forest on the lawn outside the Faculty of Humanities! It is a small, dense, fast-growing forest, featuring a variety of native shrubs. The project is now being supported by the Parks Department at the University of Oslo, and the forest will be planted by students and staff in the fall of 2027.

Discover your student city!

UiO and Oslo have plenty to offer students who want to live in an eco-friendly way! We’ve put together some tips and recommendations in our green student guide (PDF)!
