Anne Larigauderie

Anne Larigauderie receives an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Oslo.

Anne Larigauderie’s (born 1960) academic and professional career illustrates her engagement in conservation of biological diversity.

Her academic achievements, coupled with her role as the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), have played an instrumental role in advancing the understanding and conservation of biodiversity worldwide.

Her transformational role in IPBES has had great significance for the consciousness, dialogue and focus on both the biodiversity crisis and the valuation of biodiversity.

Her work at IPBES has facilitated a deeper integration of scientific knowledge into global policy and decision-making processes, ensuring the conservation of our planet's invaluable ecosystems. 

UiO's honorary doctoral degrees

Honorary doctoral degrees of UiO (Doctor Honoris Causa) are given to prominent academics. The degrees are awarded without a thesis defence/disputation.

UiO has been entitled to appoint honorary doctorates since 1824, and appointments usually occur every three years.

The honorary doctors are conferred at UiO's Annual Celebration on 2 September.
