Seminar on academic freedom
Welcome to seminar on academic freedom. The human rights defender Istar Gözaydin who won the University of Oslo's Human Rights' award 2017 has finally been permitted to travel outside of Turkey, she will give her lecture "Academic Freedom?". The University of Oslo has been hosting researchers through the network Scholars at Risk (SAR) for ten years and will mark the anniversary with lectures and panel discussion.

Istar Gözaydin received University of Oslo's Human Rights Award in 2017 for her active role as a social commentator and human rights defender. She has been an important representative for academics who are being persecuted, not just in Turkey, but in several countries.
Gözaydin was arrested and charged with “membership in an armed terrorist organization”. She was released after having spent four months in prison, but was unable to leave the country until recently.
