This document addresses which versions of macOS are supported and when support for a given version is expected to end.
Sooner or later, your faithful Mac will become too old to run a supported version of macOS. If you have had your machine for that long, it has done its job and deserves a quiet retirement outside of UiO. And you deserve a new Mac.
Supported versions of macOS
To ensure there is no doubt about what we support at any given time, we hope this document helps in planning the phasing out and new procurement of hardware.
It is important to always maintain a fleet of machines capable of running operating systems that are supported by us for use at UiO, and that are maintained with bug fixes and security updates from Apple.
We strongly recommend that all machines are always upgraded to the latest current version of macOS, as not all security issues in older versions are fixed.
| Supported versions | Released |
|---|---|
| macOS 26 Tahoe | 15.09.2025 |
| macOS 15 Sequoia | 16.09.2024 |
| macOS 14 Sonoma | 26.09.2023 |
Note that macOS 26 Tahoe will be the last version to support Macs on the Intel platform. However, there are some Intel Macs that will not be able to upgrade to Tahoe.
