Disposal of mobile devices

When your working relationship with the University of Oslo ends, mobile devices you have must be returned.

Local IT's responsibilities

Local IT at the faculty or institute is responsible for taking back the mobile devices when the working relationship with the employee is over. They are also responsible for deleting the content on the mobile device and for repurposing the device.

The employee's responsibilities

The employee is obligated to give back the mobile device along with the computer and other equipment. The user must ensure that all private content is removed before returning it.

For Apple devices: remember to deactivate "Find my iPhone" from iCloud before returning the device.

For mobile devices registered in AirWatch (mobilt arbeidsrom), the following also applies:

Registering a new owner

  • Before registering a new owner, the user and local IT must check that the device is no longer locked to the previous owner through Apple-ID or Google.
    • If it is an iOS device and you are having problems because the device is locked to a previous owner, you may use the command "Clear activation lock" from AirWatch. This command turns off the activation of "Find my iPhone" as if it was the user himself who did it.
  • The device must be wiped for all UiO content. This can be done by local IT in the AirWatch system.
  • After this has been done, a full factory reset can be done.

Transfer to private ownership

  • If the mobile device is being transferred to private ownership at the end of the working relationship with UiO, USIT must be contacted.
  • An approval from a local financial officer must be provided before USIT can remove the mobile phone from their systems.
    • All Apple equipment procured after april 2016, is locked to UiO and can not be transferred to private ownership without an approval.
  • USIT must remove the mobile phone fra Apple's DEP-register.
