Learning outcomes

You will develop advanced knowledge, specialised skills, and competence in biomaterials characterisation, tissue regeneration, and biocompatibility assessment. You will also gain experience in relevant research methodologies and analytical approaches used in biomaterials and regenerative dentistry and medicine.

The learning outcomes are structured according to the categories of knowledge, skills, and general competence, reflecting the academic, research, and professional qualifications developed throughout the two-year programme.

Knowledge

 Graduates will be able to:

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge of the structure, properties, and functional performance of biomaterials used in dental and medical applications
  • explain and critically discuss tissue biology, regenerative processes, and cell-material interactions in two- and three-dimensional systems
  • evaluate scientific methodologies used in biomaterials research, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine
  • analyse fabrication, characterisation, and testing strategies for biomaterials and medical devices
  • assess immunological and molecular mechanisms underlying biocompatibility and adverse tissue responses
  • interpret international regulatory frameworks and standards relevant to biomaterials and medical devices
  • evaluate emerging technologies and innovations in biomaterials, regenerative medicine and related healthcare fields

Skills

 Graduates will be able to:

  • apply laboratory techniques relevant to biomaterials characterisation and biocompatibility assessment
  • evaluate biomaterials and medical devices for preclinical and clinical applications.
  • design, plan, and conduct independent research projects using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods
  • characterise and evaluate interactions between biomaterials and biological systems
  • process, analyse, and interpret experimental data of relevant laboratory methods
  • critically evaluate scientific literature and apply research findings to scientific and technological challenges
  • identify, assess, and manage risks associated with laboratory-based research

General competence

 Graduates will be able to:

  • formulate research questions and hypotheses based on critical analysis of scientific literature
  • communicate scientific concepts, methods, results, and conclusions effectively to specialist and non-specialist audiences
  • work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary research and innovation environments
  • apply principles of research ethics, responsible conduct of research, and sustainability in biomedical research and innovation
  • contribute to the development, evaluation, and translation of biomaterials and regenerative technologies for healthcare applications
