Macroalgae master project in an international study

Replacement of lush perennial kelps with filamentous, annual macroalgae (so called turf) is a widespread phenomenon globally which has severe consequences for coastal diversity and production. This shift is likely related to global warming and eutrophication caused by increasing human activities in the coastal zone. The “turf” concept is however not well defined, neither regarding species composition, morphology or ecological function. Therefore, an international study is started in 2018 to characterize turf communities from different continents. We offer a master project on Norwegian turf communities to a motivated student.
