The Impact of Introducing and Organizing Systematic Pain Management Program in an Ethiopian University Hospital
Pain is a major concern of hospitalized patients in a global perspective regardless of their health problems. In particular, patients in Ethiopians hospitals reports high level of pain during hospitalization. It is identified that nurses’ competency and their organization of pain management in Ethiopian hospitals are significant factors for lack of adequate pain management. A proactive approach to pain management using hourly rounding strategy has been widely acknowledged since 2005. In the current project the caring around the clock model will be implemented in a university hospital. In addition a competency program for nurses will be introduced. We expect changes in nurses' competency as well as improvement in patients’ pain management experiences after the implementation.
