Privacy statement for UiO's newsletter

The University of Oslo (UiO) is concerned with privacy and compliance with current privacy rules for newsletters. We have updated our routines to comply with the GDPR.

The type of personal data

The type of personal data that UiO processes about you may be:

  • Your e-mail address
  • Your Name
  • Your subscription preferences
  • Information related to usage patterns

The purpose for processing

In order for UiO to be able to send you newsletters, we need to process your personal data. The e-mail address is only used to send out the newsletter you have subscribed to. We can also process information related to usage patterns for statistics and improvement.

The legal basis for processing your personal data

The legal basis for the processing is GDPR Article 6 No. 1 a: Consent.

When you sign up for a newsletter, you agree to UiO's processing of your personal data.

Unsubscription

You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing from the newsletter. We will then delete your e-mail address, and the processing of your personal data in related to the newsletters will cease. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter by clicking on the link for this in the relevant newsletter.

How is your personal data shared

Your personal data is, in addition to us, processed by our data processor Make AS. They provide the technical solution for our newsletter.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data by requesting an overview of the personal data we process about you and you may have a right to data portability. You also have the right to request that UiO corrects inaccuracies in your personal data. Further, you have a right to request deletion of personal data, and to restrict or object to our processing of your personal data according to this Privacy Statement or other service-specific terms.

We have a Data Protection Officer at UiO who you can get in touch with by sending an email to personvernombud@uio.no.

The University of Oslo (UiO) is responsible for the processing for the treatment purposes stated in this declaration. If you have questions about the content of the statement, you can contact us via e-mail: Behandlingsansvarlig@uio.no. We will process your inquiry without undue delay, and no later than one month after we receive the request.

Complaint to Datatilsynet

You have the opportunity to file a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority if you believe that your privacy has been violated.

Reuse of information

We will not reuse your email address for other email lists.

If this becomes necessary, we will contact you to ask for your consent to add your e-mail address to a new list before doing so.
