Permission to take leave on social or compassionate grounds with or without salary is stipulated in the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service but is conditional on the employer’s discretionary assessment in each case.
Employees are entitled to unpaid educational leave of a maximum of three years, provided that they have worked for at least three years and have worked for the same employer for the last two years.
Family care leave is primarily granted in connection with the care for minors. Leave for nursing mothers is part of family care leave
When you are expecting a child through birth or adoption, you must apply for parental benefits from NAV and make an agreement about parental leave with your immediate superior.
All permanent employees in academic positions can on application be granted one year’s research leave after six years of service, or six months’ research leave after three years of service.
Other situations in which leave may be granted
- Leave to participate in international activities
- Leave when a spouse gets a new posting elsewhere
