Course content
This is a follow-up course to “Advanced Reading in Ancient Indian Languages I”.
Building on the language skills acquired in the first course, the texts to be read (Sanskrit, Vedic Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit) will be chosen according to the students' proficiency and interests.
The course includes developing further skills in critically reading and analyzing secondary literature relevant to the topic.
Learning outcome
The students will further develop the ability to critically read and analyse texts on a very advanced level.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
SAN4111 Advanced Reading in Ancient Indian Languages I
Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelor’s degree with 80 credit group in Sanskrit.
Teaching
The teaching consists of 10 two-hour seminars
Students will submit 1 minor assignment (4 pages)during the course, in English. The paper must be approved by the course teacher before the student is allowed to take the final exam.
Examination
The qualifying assigmnent must be approved by the teacher before the student is allowed to take the final exam. An approved assignment is only valid for the semester the course is taken.
At the end of the semester there will be a 4 hour written exam
Use of sources and citation
You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.
Examination support material
Use of Monier Williams Sanskrit - English Dictionary is allowed.
Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
