Course content

The aim of this course is to further develop communication technologies for the Portal, the audio-visual communication platform connecting the two campuses in Trondheim and Oslo. In addition the students shall transfer knowledge and skills to the first semester students of the programme.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

Having completed the course the student:

  • masters pedagogical strategies for teaching others how to operate the Portal.

Skills

Having completed the course the student:

  • is able to integrate new technologies in the Portal, including setting up equipment, troubleshooting, and documenting the setup.
  • can run a large-scale public networking event in the Portal.
  • is able to conduct systematic evaluations of usability and user experiences.
  • is able to critically reflect on implications of technology in human communication, with respect to aesthetic and communicative factors.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Completion of the course MCT4022 - Physical-virtual communication and Music 2

Teaching

The course will start with an intensive workshop to introduce the students to strategies for teaching others about advanced technological setups. The students will be assigned to groups that will be responsible for:

  • Teaching system maintenance and documentation of the Portal.
  • Teaching how to record and document a public event in the Portal.

In addition the students are expected to work on projects developing the Portal and present them in a trial lecture at the end of the semester.

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
