Teaching without 1 metre distancing!

– We are incredibly happy to be able to open up even more when the students are in place for the new semester, says Rector Svein Stølen after being informed by the Ministry of Education and Research that the university can plan for teaching without a social distancing of 1 metre.

Although the Ministry takes into account that the Covid-19 situation may change for the worse again, it now envisages an autumn semester with teaching free from social distancing requirements.

– It feels good to enter the summer holidays knowing that we are moving ever closer to an everyday life that is how we want it to be at the University of Oslo: full of nice, meaningful, and enriching face-to-face meetings between students and lecturers, and a bustling life on campus, says Stølen , who also promises an exciting program for the brand new students.

– All new undergraduate students will be offered a sponsor group, and we encourage everyone to join. Over 1000 sponsors are ready to receive them. In addition, we have employed student assistants who will help with student life both academically and socially.

Stølen emphasises that teaching should be as physical as possible as quickly as possible when autumn comes.

– Still, we know that it takes some time to readjust from digital to physical teaching. Thus, at the start of the semester, parts of the teaching will still be digital, and then we´ll work purposefully on from there.
