There are nine Centres of Excellence (SFF) at the University of Oslo (UiO). Our research groups have been given the SFF-title for a period of ten years, in tough competition with other Norwegian research groups. The centers represent all subject areas at UiO - both health sciences, science, social sciences and the humanities.
Hylleraas
The Hylleraas Center is developing new computational methods for simulations of complex molecular systems. One goal is to understand and control complex biological and chemical systems under extreme conditions.
CanCell
Centre for Cancer Cell Reprogramming (CanCell) will find the cancer's weak points for being able to "reprogram" the cancer cells into harmless cells, thus developing new types of cancer treatment.
RoCS
Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics (RoCS) will understand the active sun. In this way, processes that have direct consequences for the earth's atmosphere and the conditions for life on earth will be uncovered.
NORMENT
Norwegian Centre for Mental Disorders Research (NORMENT) researches what it is that causes someone to develop serious mental disorders.
Pluricourts
Pluricourts studies the legitimacy of international courts from a legal, political science and philosophical perspective.
CEED
Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED) researches on fundamental questions for understanding our planet.
RITMO
Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Rhythm, Time and Motion (RITMO) will reveal the basic cognitive mechanisms underlying human rhythm and time experience.
HTH
Hybrid Technology Hub (HTH) develops an "Organ on a chip", a new technology that can contribute to a whole new understanding of the body's organisms and how different forms of treatment work.
MultiLing
Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan (MultiLing) will contribute knowledge of the opportunities and challenges of multilingualism, so that society can effectively manage linguistic diversity and that individuals can expand their communication.
