Who can get VDI, and what will it contain?

Who can get it?

Educators, researchers and students may have the need for a VDI solution. All these groups can get VDIs created, but be aware that the VDIs are not a part of the basic services at UiO. This means that there is a cost.

As a rule, it is the leader of the research group or the program manager for a subject/course who must order it. Order is done through Nettskjema.

What do I get?

VDI will be as ordered, with specified amount of RAM, CPU, disk and possibly GPU, and a standard software package. The standard software package for Windows includes Microsoft Office and other widely used applications.

The operating systems offered for the virtual machines are:

  • Windows 10
  • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  • RHEL 7

It is local IT that will install special software. A lot already exists in completed packages already, and local IT takes care of this.

You can access the VDI from any browser that supports HTML5. Access is given via, either by installing the client (recommended) or via the browser directly. The user uses their primary UiO username and password. You can sign in to VDI from any computer, tablet or smartphone.
