Many Linux users can use Evolution for for e-mail and calendar. If that works, it is a very good solution. 

2018-10-16 The plugin/add-on that was previously recommended, EWS Exchange Provider, doesn't work with the newest version of Thunderbird (version 60).

An alternative is to use TbSync instead. Please note that it has not been throughly tested at UiO, and that the developer reports some known issues: For example, "sending or responding to meeting invitations is not fully working". We recommend that you reply to meetings in OWA.

Although LDAP is well suited to search for email addresses for UiO users, it is very handy to have your Exchange addresses available in Thunderbird. Then contacts from mobile and other handheld devices will be available and you will get access to rooms in Exchange.

Sorting, or filtering, your e-mail messages into different folders provides overview and helps you keep track of messages. You can sort your e-mail in two different ways: at the server level or locally in Thunderbird.

A signature is a predefined text that is automatically added to the bottom of the e-mail messages you send. The signature should be short - preferably no longer than 4 lines - and it usually contains contact information.
