Install VMWare to get started with UiO programkiosk

Do you need to use programs only available at UiO? Install VMware Horizon Client to get a stable connection to UiO programkiosk.

This guide is directed at people who have not installed VMWare yet on their machine. If you are an employee with an UiO computer you should have VMWare installed. Windows users with an UiO computer can install VMWare from software center. Check out the guide for software center. 

1. How to get connected to UiO programkiosk 

  1. One way to connect to UiO programkiosk is with the VMware Horizon Client software. If you do not already have VMware Horizon Client installed you can download it from their website.
  2. Open the downloaded installation file and follow the instructions to install the software.
  3. Start VMware Horizon Client. You will find it in the start menu on your Windows computer, or in the Applications folder on your Mac.
  4. The first time you run VMware Horizon Client you need to connect to UiO's server.
    • Click Add Server

    • Enter into the text field in the pop up window and click "connect"

    • Log in with your UiO-username and password.

    • If the software offers you to add shortcuts, you can simply answer No on Windows or Cancel if you are on a Mac.

  5. Congratulations you are now connected to UiO programkiosk and can use the programs or remote desktop from there.
    • Note that it may take some time to connect to remote desktops. Be patient!
