Antivirus software for home computers with Windows 8

All computers must have antivirus software t oprotect against viruses and other maicious software.

  • If your home computer is running Windows 8, you can use Microsoft's built-in antivirus solution.
  • It is normally activated when you get the computer from the supplier or when you install Windows 8 from the CD.
  • However, to ensure that everything is in order, check it.

To check that Windows Defender, the Windows 8 built-in antivirus, is active:

1.  Search for the program in the Windows 8 search toolbar.

2. Type Windows Defender in the  search box to locate the program and then start it up.

3. Check that Windows Defender is turned on under the tab Administrator.

4.  Chech that real-time protection is turned on.

You may let the rest of the options remain as they are.

Protected or At Risk

Verify that the Defender window is green under the Home tab, and it says PC status: Protected.

If the color is red and it says PC status: At risk, go to the Update tab and do a manual update. Remember to save your selections if you do any changes.
