Required academic background (visible to UiO employees only)

Bachelor's degree

You must have a bachelor’s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor’s degree.

Required specialization and minimum grade requirement

You must have a minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in the required specialization. A Norwegian C is described as a good grade, generally comparable to an American B and a Second Class Upper in the British system. We do not use conversion tables for foreign grades. All foreign education is individually evaluated during the admission process.

Please note that eligible applicants who fulfill the minimum grade requirement will compete for a study place. Please see the section on ranking for more information on selection criteria.

Required specialization - valid for the autumn 2020 intake and onwards:

A specialization on Bachelor's level equivalent to 80 ECTS credits (approximately 1 1/2 year of study) within either

  • Social sciences
  • Natural sciences
  • Relevant disciplines within humanities such as corpus linguistics or second language acquisition. Arts and literature are not relevant and do not qualify for admission.

A degree in business studies does not qualify. This includes degrees in marketing and public relations.

Candidates who have taken university courses in quantitative research methods and/or statistics can be given additional points in the admission process. The courses have to be secondary courses at bachelor's degree level or higher, and must be documented in the candidate’s transcript of records. At least one of the courses has to amount to 4 ECTS or more in order to qualify for additional points.
