Why choose this programme option?

This programme option has from the academic year 2023/2024 been replaced by the programme option Applied Basin Analysis: Processes, Resources and Evolution of Life.

For all fields of study, see Geosciences (master's two years).

This programme option deals with the depositional environment, mineralogical and palaeontological composition, and evolution over time from sediment to sedimentary rock.

The subjects you take in the course of study are accompanied by laboratory exercises and field trips, so that you, in theory, and practice, get familiar with the most common models, analysis and field methods and most modern theories.

You will have a good foundation for further study or work on sediments and sedimentary rocks and palaeontological issues; both at PhD Level, or if you want to work with assignments at the authorities and industry, or as a consultant.

Most students have geological/geophysical/geographical backgrounds, but we also encourage students with a background in chemistry, physics, biology and mathematical subjects to apply for admission.

The study provides a solid foundation for further studies on doctoral studies (PhD).
