Programme structure

In the program option Sedimentology, paleontology and stratigraphy, you will take mandatory and recommended courses in the first semesters. The courses are a total of 60 ECTS credits. You start with the Master's thesis in the second or third semester, depending on your selection of courses.

The course of study you follow depends on whether or not you have a background in geosciences. If you do not have a background in geosciences you are required to follow a special program structure, see the lower part of the page.

Course selection is done in consultation with the supervisor or coordinator for the program option in the subject area of interest.

Students that have taken GEO2120 – Sedimentology and/or GEO2160 – Paleontology and Paleoecology from the University of Oslo can apply to use the courses as elective courses in the master program unless they are used in the students Bachelor's diploma. Application for use of one or both of the bachelor courses must be attached as an application to, and submitted together with, the master contract.
