Why choose this programme option?

Develop healthcare technologies that address real clinical needs. Work alongside healthcare professionals and Health Sciences students to turn clinical challenges into innovative technical solutions.

If you come from a background within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), this programme option lets you apply your technical skills directly to healthcare. You deepen your knowledge in areas such as machine learning, signal and image analysis, robotics, medical devices and biosensors.

At the same time, you build the clinical understanding you need through the bridging course in medicine and the Norwegian healthcare system, and through close collaboration with students and professionals from the Health Sciences.

From the very beginning, you work on real clinical challenges in interdisciplinary teams and develop healthcare technologies that can be tested in practice.

Study environment

As a STEM student you join a small, interdisciplinary cohort where you work closely with students from the Health Sciences.

You share project rooms and laboratories at the Department of Technology Systems and collaborate with supervisors from informatics, physics, medicine and partner hospitals.

The learning environment is practical and project-oriented: you build prototypes, analyse data and test ideas together with clinicians and industry partners. At the same time, you are part of the larger student community at the University of Oslo, with access to student organisations, social activities and innovation support.
