Semester abroad

The University of Queensland, Australia

We recommend that all of our students take a semester abroad. Up to 30 credits gained from the abroad semester can be used as elective courses in your master's degree. You can travel abroad in your:

  • second semester, or
  • third semester

Discover the world!

..or the Nordic region!

As a master student at the Department of Media and Communication you can choose whether you would like to do an exchange semester or if you wish to combine your studies with an internship through JOUR4900 Internasjonalt prosjektsemester (only in Norwegian).

Through a semester abroad you will:

  • gain international experience
  • increase your cultural understanding
  • improve your language skills
  • gain a new academic insight to media studies

Where to go?

The University of Oslo have a more than 800 exchange agreements with universities all over the world. Some agreements are owned by the University, others are owed by faculties and departments. The Department of Media and Communication currently has 22 exchange agreements.

Courses taken abroad will be included in you master's degree, and therefore the courses must be in media studies, journalism or subjects related to your master thesis.

The Department has several exchange agreements that are recommended for you, but you may also use other agreements available for UiO students.

Take a look at the faculty's travel blog for inspiration (only in Norwegian).

Although the Department has relevant agreements suited to your degree, you can also find agreements elsewhere:

International project semester (JOUR4900)

Do an exchange semester in Berlin to study political communication, or use the opportunity to gain valuable work experience working with political communication at an international level! Combine your studies with an internship through the course JOUR4900 Internasjonalt prosjektsemester medievitenskap og journalistikk (only in Norwegian).

As the internships will be at a Norwegian Foreign Office, only students with Norwegian citizenship who speaks and write Norwegian fluently will be qualified to apply. Information regarding the application process is available in the course description.

Read the Faculty intern blog, written by students doing an internship, and see how they enjoyed their stay!
