Programme structure
The Master degree in Tibetan Studies (MTS) comprises a selection of compulsory and elective courses that together should amount to 120 credits. A total of 60 credits are made up of a Master thesis to be completed in the third and fourth term. The remaining 60 credits are undertaken in the first and second term, whereof 50 credits are compulsory. The remaining 10 credits are elective, and are meant to provide the students with an opportunity to specialize in preparation for their Master thesis. The course links presented below invariably take you to websites presented in Norwegian. 1st and 2nd semester: Course work 60 credits

It is possible to apply for recognition of 10 credits in other subjects when these can be seen as relevant for the candidate’s subject area for the dissertation. Please note that restrictions on the selection of courses, from programs other than the one the student is enrolled in, apply. These restrictions are due to matters of availability and requirements for admission. The electives should also correspond with the topic the student has chosen for his/her Master thesis. As such, the courses selected from other programs of study should be discussed with a member of the academic staff, responsible for the respective students' program of study, in advance.
3rd and 4th semester: 60 credits
- RELTIB4990 – Master's Thesis in Tibetan Studies (discontinued)
The dissertation is to comprise 70-100 pages and is to be an individual research work. The dissertation counts 60 credits. The subject for the dissertation may be chosen from a wide range of topics associated with Tibetan literature, culture and society. The dissertation is written in English.
