QUESTIONS re. EXAM SUBMISSION IN FRONTER
The procedures for the electronic submission of your exam paper will be demonstrated in the Summing Up lecture 3 December.
All questions re. the submission in "Fronter" should be directed to Anne Fjellro or Maren Moen in the department administration.
Pardon the delay, but here is the dummy exam question we discussed briefly last seminar.
“During the era of increased private media activity, the Canadian government reframed its approach to broadcasting policy through the Department of Communications, in an attempt to identify ’technology’ rather than ‘free markets’ as the driving force behind regulatory changes” (Chakravartty and Sarikakis, 2006:93)
Outline the concepts of these approaches to regulation of the media in a global context and discuss and compare the merits and challenges of them as ways of constructing a global media regulatory regime drawing on the theories and discussions in the syllabus.
Home Exam: Paper Length
The information regarding the paper length on the exam information website was somewhat confusing. The correct paper length for your home exam is 10 pages, still at roughly 2300 characters not including spaces
Scanpix Excursion
On 21. November at 10 AM we will be visiting Scanpix. They are located in Akersgata 55. This is just near Stortinget T bane. If you are uncertain of the location, John, the Master student's seminar leader will be outside the Akersgata exit at 9.45.
As noted in the lecture today (November 5th) there will be no seminar on November 14. Don't forget the Scanpix excursion on November 21, though. Information on that will follow shortly

More On Films
IMK has generously agreed to sponsor tickets for you to the Films From the South festival. This applies to the one film which you will see in relation to the seminar (see post below and referr to information from the seminar this and last Friday) as well as Shock Waves, which will tie nicely into the Voice of Tibet excursion.
IMK can only refund ticket costs, so make sure you keep your ticket stub and/or any other receipts. If you are unable to purchase your own ticket, please email me at mats.silberg@gmail and I will make the neccesary arrangements for your group. I would also like for one student on each group to email me the names of the people on your group and which of the two seminars on Friday you'll attend.

Films From the South
As outlined in the seminars, we are expecting you to watch a film or two in the Film From the South program with your group of 5-7 people and present it in the seminar on October 17. The presentation should be brief, but you should prepare questions for discussion that leads from the film and is relevant to this course. The films we are suggesting are: Beatbox Colombia, Jerusalema and Frontier Life, but you are free to pick any other film from the vast program. More details will be given in the seminar and in relation to the Voice of Tibet lecture from 14.15 to 16.00 in room 205 on Friday. Details regarding funding of tickets will be posted here shortly.
PREPARATION FOR FILM LECTURE 8 OCT
The guest lecturer Dag Asbjørnsen asks you to look at the UNESCO convention on cultural diversity before the lecture on film 8 Oct.
ACCESS TO ENCYCLOPEDIA OF COMMUNICATION
The University of Oslo has a trial subscription to the new International Encyclopedia of Communication Online lasts until 20 Oct. You will have access to all kind of keywords and terms in media studies. You could only access the site from the UiO network.
SEMINAR ON JAPANESE CARTOONS
3 October 10.15-12 Anders Moe will tell about Japanese cartoons. He has has worked with the magazine Manga Mania and has written an MA thesis about the phenomenon. In room 207. From 14.15-12 the same day there is a regular seminar open for all MEVIT3220 students.
EXCURSIONS TO SCHIBSTED AND SCANPIX
The excursion to the media company Schibsted will take place Friday 19 September at 10.00 in Apotekergaten 10 Be on time! If you prefer you may meet John the seminar leader at Stortinget T-bane station (exit Akersgata, on the street) at 09.30. This is a combined excursion for MEVIT3220 and 4220, instead of seminar next Friday. The last excursion will be to Scanpix 21 November; details later.
SEMINARS 10 OCT: VOICE OF TIBET
In addition to a regular MEVIT3220 seminar 10 October all three seminar groups meet Voice of Tibet This "excursion" does not take place in their tiny space. Instead they will come to us at 14.15-16, room 205 in the Research Park. BA-students (from both seminar groups) are welcome to a regular seminar the same day at 10.15-12 in room 207.
Extra lecture for the students of media and globalisation
What are Media studies?
-The lecture introduces some core insights in media studies research, as well as its institutional and historical contours.
The lecture is held by Professor Espen Ytreberg on Wednesday 3. September at 16.15 in room 205 in Forskningsparken.
LECTURE CHANGES IN OCTOBER
Hilde Bachmann from Nordisk Film will lecture on 'Global TV-formats' on 1 October. Raymond Boyle, Prof. at the Univ. of Glasgow will guest lecture on 'Global sports content in the digital age' on 22 October at 13.15-15. The Detailed teaching plan to the left is updated. So are the two documents "Overview of Lectures and Seminars" and "Reading Week by Week".

WELCOMING LUNCH 27 AUGUST
Immediately after the first lecture 27 August all students in this course are invited to a social event with lunch at a nearby cafe. The food is offered for free. You buy your own drinks.
DETAILED TEACHING PLAN
The course starts in week 35 with lecture 27 August and seminar 29 August. The teaching ends in week 49 with the last lecture 3 December and the last seminar 5 December. There will be no lecture in week 39 and week 46. There is no seminar in week 39. There will be guest lectures from Norway as well as from abroad. A detailed lecture plan is to be found to the left. This is a true international course, usually with students from many different countries throughout the world. In addition MA and BA students meet at joint lectures (but have separate seminars).
