Private guided tour of the Aula

How to submit a request and practical information

The Aula houses Edvard Munch’s 11 iconic paintings. Because of these artworks the building is considered a museum, with strict requirements for use, preservation, and security. There is high demand for guided tours, both from internal and external stakeholders.

The Aula is frequently used for activities such as concerts, conferences, academic ceremonies, etc. Due to this high level of activity, extensive planning is required to arrange additional tours. The University of Oslo (UiO) offers private tours if capacity permits.

Please note that this is a paid service.

Application for a guided tour

Individuals or groups wishing to inquire about the possibility of a private guided tour are invited to submit a request via the designated application form. Availability of the Aula for the requested date and time, as well as the availability of qualified guides, will be assessed upon receipt of the request.

Guided tours are generally most easily accommodated in the early morning or early afternoon. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their requests well in advance and to remain as flexible as possible regarding both date and time.

Price and practical information

The price depends on group size and timing (weekday or evening/weekend). For groups of more than 10 people, an additional host or security guard must be hired, which incurs extra costs.

  • For internal bookings at UiO, a cost center and project number must be provided.
  • A tour lasts approximately 50 minutes in total, of which the guided tour itself takes 30 to 40 minutes.
  • All participants receive a brochure about Munch’s Aula paintings (in Norwegian or English).
