Advertising by businesses at UiO

Restaurants and other businesses are on campus to provide the students with good and relevant products and services. We want to create a vibrant campus where students thrive. It is in everyone's interest that they are aware of the services available at UiO.

Businesses operating at UiO are welcome to take part in events on campus, for example at Frederikkeplassen, Studenttorget, in the city centre, or in the Botanical Garden.

We ask event organisers and stand holders to avoid distributing flyers, brochures, and other single-use items. When serving food and beverages, we recommend using compostable materials. Helium balloons are not permitted.

Businesses operating at UiO may otherwise promote their services as follows:

Signs and advertising posters

A-framed poster stands used by businesses to display posters must have UiO's logo. They must be placed against a wall and must not obstruct access or accessibility. Businesses may not use their own poster stands, parasols or flags. To further improve accessibility, the A-framed stands will gradually be replaced by L-framed stands.

The University permits vinyl signage on windows and doors up to a height of 60 cm. Full window or door wraps are not permitted. The placement of vinyl signage must be approved by the relevant estate manager in the Estate Department. Posters on UiO's building facades are not permitted.

Digital signs will eventually be installed at the main entrances to Kristian Ottosens hus and Frederikkebygningen. Businesses will have access to two thirds of the display space for information such as menus and special offers, while UiO/The Estate Department will use the remaining third.

Sales and promotional activities at Frederikkeplassen

Food and beverage businesses may carry out spontaneous promotional activities to sell items from their product range, such as ice cream, soft drinks, coffee and buns when the weather is sunny. They must notify The Estate Department no later than one hour before the activity begins.

Other businesses, such as bookshops, pharmacies, and hairdressers, may sell items from their product range as part of promotional campaigns lasting up to two days.

For larger events, such as barbecue week or academic book sales, all businesses must apply through the usual process.

Clean up after yourself

  • The person responsible for the stand must clean up after each day.
  • Any items that end up on the ground must be collected and sorted for recycling.
  • If the area is not cleaned to a satisfactory standard, you will be charged for the clean-up afterwards. You will also lose the opportunity to participate next time.
