Academic freedom is essential for a well-functioning democracy, but what really connects scholarship with democracy and peace?

Scholars and students ask questions and search for new knowledge, but some questions and truths are not always welcomed by certain governments and powerful groups in society. Therefore, scholars and students are sometimes persecuted for their academic activities and active roles in society.

Are scholars with challenging questions contributing to conflict or peace, and at what price?

Keynote speaker, Executive Director of Scholars at Risk, Rob Quinn will discuss how scholars can promote peace.
