Who has access to UiO's Canvas?
UiO students and employees automatically get access to UiO's Canvas by being registered in a study program, courses or employee courses, and log in with their UiO username and password. If you do not have access you can contact your faculty.
Participants in a Continuing and Further Education course (in Norwegian "etter- og videreutdanningskurs" (EVU)) at UiO receive a UiO username and password and log in with this. But first you need to be accepted to the EVU course and receive a UiO user account.
Students and employees at other universities that register in an online Nettskjema form for the Canvas course, get access to the course in UiO's Canvas with their Feide username and password from their home institution. For example a student at NTNUwill log in to UiO's Canvas with myusername@ntnu.no.
External persons that need access to UiO's Canvas and will:
- teach at UiO,
- carry out an assignment for UiO and have an employment contract,
- or for other reasons have access to student and participant data in Canvas
...must be registered in UiO's systems and receive a UiO username and password (webpage in Norwegian only) to get access to UiO's Canvas.
Which browsers are recommended for Canvas?
We recommend that you use Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Read more about recommended browsers and check that your browser's settings are in order in this webpage (instructure.com).
How do you log in to Canvas at UiO?
- Go to canvas.uio.no.
- UiO users: Log in with your UiO username and password. If you are already logged in on a UiO computer/device or other UiO IT service, you will be logged in automatically. If you are on a non-UiO computer or device, and not currently logged in to another UiO IT service, you will be sent to Weblogin (UiO's login solution), and use your regular UiO username and password there.
- Other users:
In the login page click on Login for external users (non-UiO) and then choose Feide.
- Log in with your Feide username and password from your home institution. When you log in with Feide you start by choosing your home institution in the menu Affiliation. Then click Continue and click on the button Use work or school account. Here you write your username with @ and your institution's web address, for example myusername@ntnu.no.
- Two-factor authentication is required.

- Other users: see your home institution's website for more information about two-factor authentication
- Your dashboard in UiO's Canvas will open, and you will get access to the Canvas room(s) you are registered in. Your future, previous and unpublished rooms can be found in Courses > All courses from the navigation menu. Students and employees from other universities must log in to their home institution's Canvas environment (for example canvas.ntnu.no) in order to see their other Canvas rooms.
