Norwegian for Academics (NORA) and Other Norwegian language courses
The International Summer School offers Norwegian language courses throughout the year.
NORA courses provide university-level instruction, language practice, and examinations in one program. We also offer Norwegian language courses without examinations.
Norwegian Language for Academics (NORA)
Learn Norwegian all year round with NORA (Norwegian for Academics) at the University of Oslo. Courses are taught by experienced instructors and are ranging from beginner to advanced level.
These credit-bearing Norwegian language courses are offered in the spring, summer, and autumn semesters at the Blindern campus in Oslo. With courses ranging from beginner to advanced level (up to B2 on the CEFR scale), NORA combines university-level instruction, language practice, and examinations.

NORA: Course Overview - Spring and Autumn semester
The language courses, including examinations, are offered in the spring and autumn semesters, with both daytime and evening classes. Course fees apply. (See information about summer-semester courses elsewhere in this section.)

Online B2 Norwegian Course (Spring 2027)
NORA0130D combines weekly online classes with three weekend sessions on campus at Blindern in Oslo. Regular attendance is expected of all participants. The course content corresponds to that of NORA0130, while offering greater flexibility for participants who are unable to attend regular classroom teaching during the week.
NORA Summer Courses (6 Weeks)
- If you are up for an intensive 6-week Norwegian language course, subscribe to a NORA course at the International Summer School's summer session.
- The summer courses are credit-bearing and include examinations.
- The application period for the summer's Norwegian language courses is January 4 -March 15.
Norwegian courses for international researchers (NORIR)
Non-credit Norwegian language courses (NORIR) for UiO employees & guests.
Important: NORIR courses are not for credit and do not include a final exam. Course participants must be able to speak English.
