UiO offers Office 365, which includes Microsoft Word, for its students. You can install this on your own private computer.
Remove personal information before submission
To ensure anonymity, you must remove personal information before you save the document as a PDF. There are several ways to do this. Below is a description of how this can be done for Word files in Windows and MacOS.
Word on Windows
Navigate to the location where you have saved the document, right-click the Word document and select (1) Properties.

Select the tab (2) Details at the top of the dialog box that appears, and then (3) Remove Properties and Personal Information at the bottom.

A new window will appear. Here you tick (4) Remove the following properties from this file, and then tick (5) Authors and Last saved by before you click (6) OK.

Word on MacOS
Open the Word document and do the following:
- Tools > Protect Document > Privacy > Remove Personal Information from this File > OK.
Save the document as a PDF
How to save a document as a PDF depends on the software you use. The most common ways are through Microsoft word and Mac OS X.
Upload and submit your answer

- Upload your answer and any attachments. Usually, the answer must be submitted as a single PDF file, but in some cases it may be permitted to submit several files and/or different file formats. This will depend on the type of exam and should be specified in the exam paper.
- The cover sheet contains general information about the exam, such as start/end time and course code. In some cases, the cover sheet may contain fields that you must fill in before submission. If so, the button will say “Fill in cover sheet” .
The answer is not automatically submitted when you upload it; you must click "Click here to submit" for the answer to be submitted. If you choose to submit a blank paper, your answer will be empty and will not be assessed. You will receive the result “did not attend”.

You can withdraw your submission and resubmit up until the exam time is over.
You can also have a receipt confirming that your answer has been submitted sent to you by email.
