Programme structure

NB! The programme structure below is new as of Autumn 2014. Students that were admitted before Autumn 2014, should refer to the old programme structure.

The course of study consists of a total of 120 credits that are distributed in the following manner:

  • Compulsory courses, 30 credits
  • Elective courses, 30 credits
  • One out of four 60 credits "packages" in the 3rd and 4th semester

Recommended order of the course of study

4. semester

EAST4591 – Master's Thesis in East Asian Culture and History (discontinued)

or 

EAST4593 – Master's Thesis in East Asian Culture and History

3. semester

EAST4010 – Research Methodology in East Asian Studies (discontinued) and

or

AMS4900 – International Project Term in Asia and the Middle East or

Studies abroad or

2. semester

Elective courses

1. semester EAST4510 – Multiple Modernities in East Asia: Approaches to the Study of Culture and History (discontinued) Compulsory course according to language of specialization

It is possible to apply for recognition of up to 30 credits taken in other subjects from the University of Oslo or other universities when these can be seen as relevant for the candidate’s subject area for the Master's thesis. This form (only in Norwegian) should be filled out and sent to the student adviser if you wish to do so.
