Meet the university pedagogues in UiO: research topics in university pedagogy and higher education

This session presents research work and findings in the context of higher education and emphasises university pedagogy-relevant topics. University pedagogues offer peeks into their highly relevant research studies with a focus on: collaboration and academic hospitality, sustainability, student drop-out, teaching and learning with AI, and evidence-based teaching. The audience is invited to a discussion of implications for the educational practices and applications."

The session comprises four presentations followed by short discussions:

  • Anna Mavroudi and Fredrik Røkenes, "GenAI literacy among university teachers and implications for faculty professional development"
  • Crina Damsa, "Learning Analytics in practice: Exploring dropout and persistence during the first year of study"
  • Molly Sutphen and Tone Solbrekke, "How can student learning from group work be better? Teaching and learning collaboration with academic hospitality"
  • Eevi Beck, "Sustainability in everyday academic life across UiO's disciplines: A discussion on transformative changes"

The discussion takes place in English and supports hybrid participation.

Building Research Readiness: co-developing a Master’s Research-Preparation Course with the University Library

The Faculty of Dentistry and the University Library have received funds via UiO to develop a research-preparation course for second-semester Master’s students.

In this session we will describe how we identified the gaps, planned and co-developed the research-preparation course together. This course supports students in developing the scientific background and introduction for their Master’s thesis through advanced literature searching, critical evaluation of scientific sources, structured literature review methods, and academic writing.

We will briefly reflect on the development process, the respective contributions of the Master’s programme at the Faculty of Dentistry and the Department for Educational Support at the University Library, and our experiences with the collaboration so far.

Presenters: Athina Samara (OD), Julie Skattebu (UB), Sara Clarke (UB)
