Facilities
Interested in learning more about the infrastructure associated with the fourMs lab?
The fourMs Lab is a core facility for research infrastructure consisting of state-of-the-art systems for studying human motion and physiology in a multimedia context. The lab is central to the activities of RITMO - Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Rhythm, Time and Motion, a Norwegian Centre of Excellence. While it is hosted at RITMO, it supports interdisciplinary activities for all members of the University of Oslo, the greater research community worldwide, and industry professionals.
A large quantity of equipment is part of the fourMs lab which is both installed in the physical lab space as well as packaged for use outside of lab.
Physical Lab
The lab space consists of and entry way, control room, and main lab. Installed in the lab is a state of the art optical motion capture system and a number of conventional video cameras. In addition comes the multichannel audio rig, which allows for the exploration of spatial audio.
Main installed systems are as follows:
- Interactive Talkback system
- Simple two way communication between the control room and lab space
- Multichannel Audio
- 24 channel spatial audio speaker setup
- Up to 14 channels of microphone inputs
- Optical Motion Capture
- 12 Arqus + 1 Miqus cameras from Qualisys
- Video
- Video Mixer with 4 Sony xf105 cameras
All portable technology can also be used within the lab space.
More information can be found in the lab handbook on the methods and technologies installed in the fourMs Lab.
Portable Lab
A large quantity of technology composes the portable lab and can be used both in the physical space or taken to wherever the need is. A full list and instructions on some of the devices can be found on the lab handbook section for portable technology. Some of the main systems available are:

E-Infrastructure
The fourMs lab has set up a facility for storage and analysis of all types of research data. The research storage drive is run by USIT and is secure for hosting research data. VDI access with related software has been setup for users needing a secure way to process personal research data such as motion capture. This system as well as other methods for access can be found on the lab handbook.
Data Management
A local system for data management is integral for our research in the fourMs lab. While it is the responsibility of the researcher to properly manage data there is a lab handbook section for more information regarding specific lab resources, templates, and procedures.
