AST5340 – Numerical Simulation

Methods in numerical simulation in hydrodynamics and plasma physics applied to astrophysical problems.
The course gives a background to apply methods in numerical simulation in master and Ph.D. theses in astrophysical hydrodynamics and plasma physics.

Formal prerequisite knowledge
Bachelor degree of the Fysikk, astronomi og meteorologi (bachelor) (continued) programme or comparable.
Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelor degree of the Fysikk, astronomi og meteorologi (bachelor) (continued) programme, specially AST3130 – Gas dynamics (discontinued). AST5130 – Space Plasma (discontinued), INF-MAT2350 – Numerical methods (discontinued) and FYS3150 – Computational Physics may also be useful.
10 credits AST314.
2 hours of lectures/tutorials each week.
A final oral examination. Compulsory home exercises may be given. Passed and failed.
The course is given if 3 or more students sign up.
