Exam FAQ 2026

If you have any questions during the exam, send an email to pnielsen@ifi.uio.no. We post answers to questions here.

Question: I noticed that no formal requirements have been posted for the document we are to submit for the exam. I just wanted to double-check whether this means that we do not need to include our candidate number in the document. I was also wondering whether there are any requirements regarding a cover page, page numbering, referencing style, etc.

Answer: I recommend you include your candidate number on submissions, even though Wiseflow will probably keep track of it.

You must cite your sources properly, but you may use whichever citation style you prefer.

There are no requirements for a cover page, page numbering, etc.

Question: How should we refer to the “Case Assignment Document”?

Should we treat it as common knowledge, for example by writing “as described in the case description”? This is how the seminar instructors have asked us to do it. Or should we include a full APA 7th edition reference now that it is an exam? The challenge is that the document has neither an author nor a publication year.

Answer: For the purposes of this course and the exam, information provided in the Case Assignment Document may be treated as common knowledge. You therefore do not need to include an APA reference when using or paraphrasing this information.

If you quote directly from the document, please indicate this clearly, for example: “as stated in the Case Assignment Document.”

If you use additional information about DGM from external sources (which is not expected), you must cite those sources correctly in APA style.

Question: Are we allowed to cite our group assignments in our exam? For example, when explaining concepts?

Answer: You may refer to your group assignment when discussing your own reflections, reasoning, or learning process. Cite it correctly and make clear that it was group work.

However, for concepts, theories, or arguments originating from course materials or other authors, cite the original source rather than the group assignment.
