Absence from compulsory tuition activities

If you are ill or have another valid reason for being absent from compulsory tuition activities in courses at the Faculty of Social Sciences, your absence may be approved or the compulsory activity may be postponed.

What is valid absence?

Illness or other weighty reasons may be approved as valid absence or a valid reason for postponing a compulsory activity. Valid reasons for absence must be documented, for example with a doctor's note.

Deadline for applying for valid absence

You must apply for valid absence or the need for a postponed deadline on a compulsory paper within 3 working days after the absence or the original deadline. You must also submit valid documentation within this deadline.

How do I apply for valid absence?

Undergraduate students

  • You must notify SV-info if you are absent from compulsory tuition activities or need a postponed deadline on a compulsory paper. Absence or need for a postponed deadline must be documented with a doctor's note or other relevant documentation.
  • Documentation must be submitted to SV-info within 3 working days after the absence or the original deadline.
  • If you are absent from a compulsory seminar or not able to hand in a compulsory paper within the deadline, you must also notify your seminar leader as soon as possible. Contact information is found on the courses' semester page.

Undergraduate students

Use the online application form to apply for valid absence or a postponed deadline on a compulsory paper.

  • Documentation which contains sensitive information should be handed to SV-info. Other documentation can be uploaded in the form.
  • For courses at the Department of Political Science:
    • If you are absent from a compulsory seminar or not able to hand in a compulsory paper within the deadline, you must also notify your seminar leader as soon as possible. Contact information is found on the courses' semester page.

  • Absence from compulsory tuition activities or need for a postponed deadline on a compulsory paper must be documented with a doctor's note or other relevant documentation.
  • Documentation must be submitted to the front office (office 517) on the 5th floor in Eilert Sundts building.
