Attendance requirements in the 9th Semester.

Attendance requirements - PBL

PBL attendance is mandatory. A registration sheet will be used at each tutorial to keep track of attendance. The PBL adviser will send the dated list to the Semester Coordinator for filing.

Students are allowed to be absent from PBL instruction for a maximum of 20%. The calculation of absence is based on the number of meetings. Neither reasons for absence, nor written confirmation is required.

If a student is absent from PBL instruction between 20% and 30%, he/she must complete a written assignment, approved by the semester committee. The choice of topic will relate to the missed material.

Reasons for absence between 20% and 30% are not required.

If a student is absent for more than 30% of the PBL instruction, he/she must repeat the semester regardless of the reasons for the absence.

  • Number of weeks with PBL: 8
  • Number of Meetings: 16
  • Maximum absence of 20%: 3
  • Maximum absence of 30% (substituted with a written assignment): 5

Students are not allowed to change PBL groups or to switch between groups.

Attendance requirements - Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Clinical Small Group Teaching and Courses are mandatory.

A maximum absence of 20% is permitted without compensation.  Absence between 20% and 30% requires compensation. Compensation is to be decided by the teaching department.

The following courses are all mandatory: The Introductory Courses, the Summary Course, the Outpatient Clinics, the Labour Ward and the Gynaecology Ward sessions.
 
Students have two mandatory days in the obstetric outpatient clinics. You have the option of adding a day, and this can be arranged with the head nurse of  the department. The extra day is a student coordinated activity – please avoid overbooking.
Note: It is important to contact the outpatient clinics to make sure they have  patients on the extra day.

Attendance is controlled at the end of the semester using the Signature Book handed out at the beginning of the semester. Every student is required  to have a Signature Book where the mandatory attendance requirements  must be documented with signatures. Remember to hand in your Signature Book to the Semester Coordinator as soon as the clinical teaching in Gynaecology and Obstetrics ends.

Attendance requirements - Paediatrics

Clinical small group teaching is mandatory

A maximum absence of 20% is permitted without compensation. Absence between 20% and 30% requires compensation. This applies to the Paediatric Clinical Examination, the Small Group Teaching on the wards (CW), the Outpatient Clinics (OC), the Voksentoppen Center for Asthma and Allergy (VT RH) and the Health Center (HC).

Mandatory activities in Paediatrics is NOT included in the 20%:

One evening at the Paediatric Emergency, Oslo Kommunale Legevakt (LEGEV). No absence permitted. In case of excused absence*, please contact your semester coordinator immediately in order to make arrangements to compensate for the missed teaching. You need to document your absence.

Case meeting: Present one patient’s written medical history. No absence permitted. In case of excused absence*, please contact your semester coordinator immediately in order to make arrangements to compensate for the missed teaching. You need to document your absence.

*Excused absence:

  • The student becomes ill before teaching starts (has to be documented with a medical certificate)
  • The student becomes ill during teaching ( the student needs to see a doctor immediately in order to get a valid medical certificate)
  • Other valid reasons, for instance death in the immediate family.

MandatoryTest in Practical Anatomy

A mandatory test in practical anatomy will be held some weeks after completion of the anatomy teaching. Students are not allowed to sit the final exam of the 9th semester without having passed the test.

MandatoryTest in Practical Histopathology

A mandatory test in practical histopathology will be held some weeks after completion of the pathology teaching. Students are not allowed to sit the final exam of the 9th semester without having passed the test.
