The pension scheme for employees at UiO is administered by the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) and the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV).
Where are you a member?
Norwegian National Insurance Scheme (NAV)
Norwegian Public Pension Fund (SPK)
Employees working both at UiO and another government employer
All work for government agencies must be reported to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
Professor II
For persons with a 100% position with an external employer and a 20% secondary position at UiO imposed by the main employer, special rules apply to pension accrual. Read more about pension accrual for Professor II (in Norwegian).
Other pension funds
Some employees at UiO are members of the Pension Fund for Health Enterprises in the Capital Region (PKH), the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund for Municipal and County Employees (KLP), Oslo Pension Insurance (OPF), or other public pension funds. This applies only to Professor II positions. For information about this, contact the pension scheme of your main employer.
Types of pensions
Retirement pension
Old-age pension from the National Insurance Scheme (NAV) and SPK ensures that you have an income when you retire:
Contractual early retirement scheme (AFP)
The contractual early retirement pension (AFP) in the public sector is governed by two different sets of rules. Which AFP scheme you have depends on your year of birth:
- Contractual early retirement pension (AFP) in the public sector, born before 1963 (nav.no) (in Norwegian)
- Lifelong contractual early retirement pension (AFP) in the public sector, born in 1963 or later (nav.no) (in Norwegian)
- Contractual retirement pension (AFP) in the public sector (spk.no)
Disability pension
If your position percentage is reduced due to illness or injury, you may be entitled to disability pension from the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) and possibly disability benefit from NAV.
- Financial support when you are not able to work due to illness or injury (spk.no)
- Disability benefit (nav.no)
- Work assessment allowance (AAP) (nav.no)
Coordination of pensions
All benefits accrued before 2020, and for persons born before 1 January 1963, from the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK) are coordinated with pensions from the National Insurance Scheme.
Overview and control of your membership data in SPK
You can access your own data in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). You can see an overview of the information registered about you with SPK by logging in to “My page” (spk.no).
On My page, you will find an overview of your pensionable service time and your pension, as well as access to a pension calculator where you can calculate your old-age pension using your own figures.
When you go through the list of reported positions, you should check that:
- all periods of employment are included
- all government employers are included (you will not see non-government employers here)
- all position percentages are correct
- all periods of leave are registered
If you believe that there is information from UiO that needs to be corrected, notify SPK and describe what you think should be added or amended. Submitted cases are processed on a continuous basis. Send an email to spk-kvalitet@admin.uio.no.
